SCENE 1 Snuffy greets Big Bird in the yard wearing a cap and speaking with a New Jersey accent. He explains that after witnessing the amazing sight of people stopping a taxi, he's decided to become a taxi cab driver. The only thing he's lacking is the car; it's not easy when you need one.

SCENE 2 Snuffy has decided that since taxi cabs cost a lot of money (and he only has 75¢), he's going to carry people around on his back. After a demonstration, he figures he'll get tired of doing that all day, so he asks Tanya if he can borrow her tricycle an let people ride on the back. He realizes he's too big for the tricycle, so he ends up pulling some kids along in a wagon.

Oscar pulls up in his Sloppy Jalopy and the adults reluctantly get inside. Oscar eagerly takes up their idea to show subtraction and has them leave the car one by one to illustrate it. Oscar then declares he's off the clock and drives off, leaving them stuck in the rain.

SCENE 3 Gordon and Susan sit on the stoop writing out Miles' family tree. They explain that it starts with Miles at the bottom, his parents (them) above, and then branch off to his grandparents.

At his trash can next to them, Oscar the Grouch overhears this and scoffs, explaining that a Grouch family tree is a literal one with branches that you stick pictures of your family on. He and the Grouchketeers sing "My Grouch Family."

Oscar then promises to later tell them about his Uncle Ebenezer ("He was a swell guy!"); when Gordon and Susan roll their eyes at this, one of the kids is heard politely asking to hear about Oscar's uncle now.

Oscar doesn't believe it until Bob orders Barkley over to give Oscar kisses.

  • The family tree made by Gordon and Susan gives the last names of "Robinson" and "Phillips" to Susan and Gordon respectively. This is the first time the characters have been given last names, though eventually they would be switched around for the remainder of the series.
