She'd like to learn about the things they're doing, but they explain that since she has hooves, she wouldn't be able to play the flute, take pictures with a camera, or fix a clock. Seeing that Gladys is hurt by this realization, Bob and Gordon find ways to include her in their activities (Bob will give her singing lessons and Gordon will have her model for his photography), but Maria can't think of a way she can help with fixing things. Gladys is touched that Maria would care enough to try, gives her a big, wet kiss on the side of the face, and leaves. Having helped her out, Gordon and Bob feel better but Maria just feels wetter.
