SCENE 1 Gordon, Susan, Bob, Telly Monster, and the kids gather around Oscar's trash can to hear Oscar tell them a story, particularly the day he first arrived on Sesame Street.

SCENE 1 cont'd Many years ago, Oscar wanders onto Sesame Street, where he looks for a new place to live. He spots an empty space next to the stoop of 123 Sesame Street and decides that this would be the perfect spot for his home. He meets his first potential neighbor, Gordon, who receives some insults about his bald head and gets tricked by Oscar's "snake in a can" prank. Back in the present, Oscar takes a break before moving on with the story.

SCENE 2 Oscar continues his story, where he meets Susan for the first time. She and Gordon see he's set up a tent made from used newspapers, which he comes to realize as an impractical way to live. He then pulls the snake trick again on Susan. Oscar takes another break to get some grouch juice and to reminisce about Susan's reaction to his trick.

SCENE 3 In the final part of Oscar's story, he sets up his living space with a metal wastebasket. He meets yet another new neighbor, Bob, who points out how the wastebasket won't make for a good home. He goes on to describe a clean-up drive he's planning, having gotten some brand-new trashcans for the occasion. Inspired, Oscar asks to have one of the old trashcans that are being replaced, and it has been his home ever since.
SCENE 3 cont'd Telly enjoyed the story and asks to try some Grouch juice. Oscar hands him the thermos, which had spring-loaded snakes in it. "The old snake trick - just as beautiful today as it was way back then on the first day I came to Sesame Street," says Oscar.
