SCENE 1 Elmo can't think of anything to do today, when he hears Big Bird and Gordon from behind the construction door talking about going to a range. Elmo decides he wants to go too and darts off.

Inside Big Bird's nest area, it's revealed the two were merely reading the lines of a play Big Bird's written. Elmo comes in dressed as a cowboy, having roped Buster the Horse and Gladys the Cow. Gordon sets the issue straight and now the three wish to be in Big Bird's play. He already has a part for a horse and cow, but needs to write in a role for a furry red monster.
