Picture Segment Description

SCENE 1 Maria welcomes the viewer, upset by the extreme heat today. Oscar calls her over, showing her his new Grouch fan. To operate it, Maria must pull on the nearby rope. She pulls and pulls, keeping Oscar cool, but making her even hotter and tired. She advises the viewer to look away as she tries trashing Oscar with her magazine.
Cartoon An ant is pressured by his peers to finish the anthill all by himself, until he enlists the cooperation of the others.

Animation A rock does somersaults for its peers, but gets little applause.

Muppets Ernie & BertBert is trying to write a letter to Mr. Rogers, but finds it difficult when Ernie operates his electric fan right next to him. Bert blows up at Ernie and says he is "hot and bothered," and Ernie has just the thing for that: more cool air. (Bert's opening line is omitted)

SCENE 2 Oscar stops Luis as he passes by and offers him a glass of water to beat the heat, no jokes or tricks. Luis skeptically takes a sip and is pleased it's normal. Fluffy has another way to keep cool - swimming in the pool. After her swan dive, Oscar thinks of another solution to stay cool - taking a cool shower. Luis agrees and Fluffy squirts him all over with water. Luis actually finds it refreshing and thanks them. "Boy, the heat sure does strange things to people."

SCENE 3 Now, Oscar wishes to get cool, so he's devised a plan. He hires Mr. "Yuckleupagus" to blow on a large ice block, making cool air for Oscar. Snuffy's blowing proves to be too strong, as it makes a compete mess out of Oscar and his trash can area.
