Picture Segment Description

SCENE 1 Maria welcomes the viewer on a rainy day. Elmo points out to her all the different types of sounds, like rain hitting the pavement, Oscar's trash can lid and Maria's umbrella. His favorite sound, however, is the sound of Big Bird walking through the puddles in his giant galoshes.
Cartoon A boy thinks it's raining outside, so he puts on his rain gear and goes outside, only to find sunny weather. It turns out the lawn sprinkler was near his window.

Muppets Lefty sells Ernie an invisible ice cream cone; Ernie pays for it with an invisible nickel. (Lefty's last line, "I don't see nothin'", is cut.)

SCENE 2 Elmo makes his way to Hooper's Store for lunch. He decides to wait outside at the table while Gina prepares his order, but she makes him come back inside and think about what would happen to his food if it went in the rain. Elmo thinks he can get someone to hold an umbrella over him while he eats (since he can't hold it and eat simultaneously) and runs off.
Cartoon The Bellhop is sent to the grocery store to get twenty grapefruits. He counts to 20 on the way there so that he can remember the quantity, but forgets what item he was sent for.

Muppets Grover sells newspapers in the street. He thinks they are for making paper hats, but a customer shows him they are actually for reading. The customer wants to buy a newspaper, but Grover won't stop reading the paper that the customer wants to buy. Grover reads about construction of a new building, a parade, and an expected rain shower, all of which occur as Grover reads.

SCENE 4 Luis tells the viewer Preposterous, Oscar's pet dog, will be playing along in his non-musical variant of "One of These Things." Oscar doubts his pup won't play along and Preposterous remains stoic as Luis explains the rules: he must chose which of two shoes matches the ones in his box. Luis announces Preposterous has won the game; he's been standing behind the answer the whole time! Oscar doesn't believe any of it and gets pounced upon by his "loyal" dog.

SCENE 6 cont'd Elmo figures out another way to show the shapes: by pointing out them around the street. One of Gina's boxes is a square, one of Wally's bicycle tires is a circle and Luis' easel is a triangle. Elmo comes up with more examples using his body, while Maria announces the sponsors.
