SCENE 1 | Telly greets the viewer as he watches Gabi while Luis works at the Fix-It Shop. Gabi starts to cry and gurgle, and Telly wonders if she's trying to talk. Luis says that babies can't speak at three months yet, but Telly hears her make an "ah-ey-ah" noise over and over, thinking that she might be speaking baby language. He imagines what it would be like if he were a baby asking Luis to pick him up (speaking like he usually does in his thoughts). He finds it frustrating that no one understands him. When Luis returns, Telly tells him he's decided to learn to speak "baby" so Gabi will have someone to talk to. |

Gabi makes some noises, and Luis says that means she is hungry and gives her a bottle. Telly is surprised and asks how Luis knows that. He says he learned it by listening to Gabi; even though it isn't real speech, Gabi can still show how she feels. Telly begins to listen to the sounds Gabi makes as Big Bird announces the sponsors. |
