SCENE 1 | Isaac Stern comes to Sesame Street and asks Maria if the Amazing Mumford is around. He explains earlier outside Carnegie Hall, Mumford was doing some street performance. Instead of making a flower disappear as planned, Mumford made Isaac's violin disappear (along with himself). He was told Sesame Street would be the place to find him and retrieve his violin (which he needs for a concert he's giving in Cleveland this evening). Mumford appears and tries to make Isaac's violin return, instead conjuring up other types of instruments. Isaac finally gets his violin back, but it's missing the case. Mumford claims violin cases are a tricky thing to make appear and leaves to consult his magic book.

Film | A girl goes to school somewhere in Africa. We see the girl getting ready to go to school, as she washes herself and brushes her teeth, puts on her clothes, brushes her hair, and takes her lunch, all with some help from her mother. We see her walking past her neighbors and watching her classmates play outside as she arrives at school. The bell rings, and the girl enters the school, where the teacher is passing out chalk to her students. We see the teacher teaching the students the English words: "a boy," "a girl," "a man," "a woman," which she has written on the board, along with a drawing for each word. The students repeat the words, then write them down on their individual chalkboards as the girl remarks, "We are learning to read and write." The students then jump up and down, as the teacher looks on, smiling. Next, we see the students jumping outside excitedly, now that school has finished. |
SCENE 3 | Biff and Sully move a piano into view when they run into Mr. Stern. Biff claims he's a musical expert, despite shushing Sully when he plays a short tune on the piano. Isaac proposes a duet and asks for an "A." Biff darts off, while Isaac and Sully play a portion of César Franck's Sonata for Violin and Piano. Biff returns, not able to find an "A," but brings back a letter T. ("They don't call me Mr. Music for nothin'!")

A bunch of other instrument cases appear instead; Mumford admits that it was a joke, and Isaac's case is behind the biggest one. Big Bird wants Isaac to stay and play some more, but he has a plane to catch. Mumford insists he can send Isaac to Cleveland with magic, despite everyone's protests. In a poof of smoke, Isaac is nowhere to be seen, but Maria, Mumford, and Big Bird notice how exceptional Elmo is at playing his violin now. It turns out to be Stern in Elmo's body, who (in Stern's voice) announces the sponsors while playing the Sesame Street Theme. |
