SCENE 1 In the wee hours of the morning Hiroshi greets the viewer, assuming he's the only one up at the moment. He then sees Hoots the Owl having a hard time getting Athena to go to sleep for the day. When a lullaby from Hoots' sax doesn't work, Hiroshi tries with a bedtime story he recalls from childhood: "Peach Boy," a Japanese folk story about a couple who adopts a baby found within a magical peach. Athena finds the story exciting and remains awake, while Hoots is fast asleep.

He imagines he's at the park instead, gently playing on the seesaw.
