SCENE 1 Samantha the Lamb believes Big Bird and Maria are her owner, Mary (of nursery rhyme fame). The two have been separated after departing the subway, which Sam claims happens quite often. Until Mary can find her, Sam desperately needs someone else to follow and choses Maria, since her same is almost the same as Mary's.

Maria suggests they cooperate and take turns - Sam can stay put while Maria works, then she can follow Maria as she makes her delivery. Sam struggles, but manages to stay still until Maria is done. They two head out, but Maria bumps into Luis and drops the radio.

In a parody of High Noon, Clementine doesn't want Forgetful Jones to meet Sinister Sam, the meanest man in the west, at the traintracks at noon, especially since it's their wedding day. But both Forgetful Jones and Buster (in song, referencing "Do Not Forsake Me" from High Noon) convince her that "a man's got to do what a man's got to do". Sinister Sam shows up and, in a threatening manner, informs Forgetful Jones that he's got something to say to him ... "I think it was mighty nice of you to remember to meet my train!" They all hit the saloon for lemonade, leaving Clementine dejected.

SCENE 4 Maria darts upstairs to get a sweater, leaving Sam down on the stoop. Oscar and Grundgetta, seeing how much of a follower Sam is, call her over to taste-test their respective, disgusting sandwiches and judge whose is best. Sam asserts that she may be a follower, but she isn't going to do something she doesn't want just because others tell her so. Maria sees this and believes she knows someone who can help straighten Sam out.

She proceeds to sing "I Am Mutton, Hear Me Roar" to show how she became more assertive. Sam agrees with the message and wants to take control of her life, but realizes her poem will now need a rewrite.
