SCENE 1 Oscar and the Grouchketeers want Gabi to join their organization. He gives the kids a demonstration of loud and quiet. He's pleased with Gabi, who doesn't follow any of Oscar's commands. He believes she's becoming more like a Grouch with each passing day, though Maria counters otherwise. He tells the viewer to stick around and see his other Grouch tests he can try on Gabi.
Cartoon A hippo who lives in the country, and likes it quiet, is disturbed when a mouse, who likes it loud, moves in.

SCENE 3 Maria relaxes after putting Gabi down for her nap. Oscar appears from behind a chair and shouts, "Aha! Where is she?!" This wakes Gabi back up and she begins to cry. Oscar considers her cries, as well as her mess of toys, the cookware and shoes, as more evidence of her being a Grouch. Maria points out these are just further examples of her being a typical child.

Maria shares that has the same aspirations, until Oscar clarifies that he means President of the Groucketeer Club, not of the United States. Maria leaves and Oscar announces the sponsors.
