Picture Segment Description

SCENE 1 Elmo tells Maria that today, he wants to learn how to be a Grouch for a day. Oscar refuses to help, constantly replying "NO" and waving a sign with the word. Maria doesn't think Oscar would even be able to teach Elmo; Oscar feels insulted and decides to teach Elmo some Grouch things, starting with saying "NO," leading to some confused wordplay.

Oscar reluctantly does so, getting louder and louder so Elmo can hear, but Elmo still refuses. Maria suggests then that Oscar ask even nicer, which causes Oscar to faint at the idea.

Insert While fixing Big Bird's record player, Luis tells him of a story he's reading about Captain Swashbuckle, a pirate. He tells Big Bird a synopsis of what he's read so far, but Big Bird throws several ideas what happens next, such as Swashbuckle having run-ins with a giant fish and bird. Luis reads him the remainder of the story: Captain Swashbuckle is sailing in a storm, when Luis' phone rings, and he must put the story on hold. Big Bird then thinks up the obvious ending - the bad guys call Swashbuckle and call off the fight because of rain.

SCENE 5 Seeing that Oscar is at his wit's end, Maria politely asks Elmo to come out of the can since he promised he'd only be a Grouch for a day. Elmo complies, but wishes to bounce on Oscar's trampoline 17 times first. Maria and Oscar count along as Elmo bounces before flying out of the can, and he enjoyed it so much he wants to do it again! Maria and Oscar (who quickly reclaims his can) announce the sponsors.
