COLD OPEN | Big Bird comes out of his nest area, mentions today's sponsors, and also points out that Mother Goose is coming to visit today.
SCENE 1 | At Hooper's Store, Big Bird tells Gina, Evelyn, and Arlana that Mother Goose will be meeting him there today. Gina guesses how she might be traveling, as they hear the sounds of a car, a bike, and an airplane outside; Big Bird confirms that none of these are her means of transportation. Just then, they hear a goose honking (which is how she got her name), announcing her arrival.
SCENE 1 cont'd |
The goose lands with a crash, after which Mother Goose herself (played by Judith Ivey) enters the store and greets everyone. She brings in her dog, Rhymeraner, then Gina warns her that she might not want to leave her goose double-parked outside. She leaves Rhymeraner with them as she goes to park her goose in the garage.

MG remembers that she needs to get her toaster fixed, and they agree to look after Rhymeraner for a few minutes while she's gone. Right after she leaves, Rhymeraner starts crying. Gina points out that MG said "Bye" before she left, and that "bye" rhymes with "cry." Gina then says "Enough," and Rhymeraner starts barking "ruff-ruff!" nonstop.

Big Bird says he'll be getting a broom to sweep, hoping to get Rhymeraner to sleep, but instead the dog starts to baa like a sheep. Gina wishes she would take a nap, after which the dog starts to tap dance.

Maria wonders what happened to all those nursery rhyme characters, and MG shows her a scrapbook documenting what they all grew up to be. In song ("When I Grow Up"), she reveals that Little Jack Horner became a cook, Jill (of Jack and Jill fame) became a doctor, and Little Miss Muffet became a bug-and-spider specialist. Mother Goose comes back to see how things are going and tells them all to tap, as "rhyming backwards" is the trick to getting her to do so.
