The thirtieth episode of Mother Goose Stories retells the nursery rhyme of "Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater."

When the goslings find a mysterious jumping pumpkin in their garden, Mother Goose tells them the story of Peter and his family.

Story[]

Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
Had a wife but couldn't keep her;
He put her in a pumpkin shell
And there he kept her very well.

Peter, an excentric pumpkin farmer, is so distracted by his pumpkins that his house is falling apart. It's so bad, that even the mice are moving out. His wife is dismayed with their crumbling living conditions but Peter only focuses on how great his pumpkins are. Their lives are full of pumpkins — they eat pumpkin pie for breakfast, pumpkin soup for lunch, pumpkin stew for dinner, pumpkin everything.

Their son is obsessed with pumpkins too — constantly inventing new breeds of pumpkins. He breeds a pumpkin that's crossed with a Venus flytrap (and stands guard, bites and attacks), and he invents another one that's crossed with a jumping bean (and jumps all around and further wrecks their already-crumbling home). The boy considers making a cross between a pumpkin and a football and a cross between a pumpkin and a fish — Peter's wife laments that her son is just as bad as his father and wonders if she married someone who is "a cross between a pumpkin and a man."

Eventually Peter's son creates a rapidly-growing pumpkin that grows bigger than their house (expanding and destroying what is left of the house in the process). Peter's solution is to hollow it out and move the family inside. Peter's wife is unsure at first, but after seeing the finished pumpkin shelter (with doors and windows) is thrilled with their new home. A man passes by and sees the house made of a pumpkin shell and asks if he could order one. Peter decides to make pumpkin houses his business and soon creates a whole neighborhood of pumpkin homes.
