Big Bird consults them on what he should use it for; Merry suggests he buy a sports car, and the two get briefly carried away until Big Bird realizes a sports car costs a lot more than a dollar. Gordon thinks he could get a toy sports car, but Big Bird still isn't sure.

Until one day an ice cream parlor janitor noticed that when people brought their leashed pet anteaters in to enjoy an ice cream soda, the floor was always sucked completely clean. Realizing that nature had solved the problem, the janitor invented artificial anteater noses that strapped on over people's mouths... which eventually evolved into the modern straw. Since he doesn't have one, he buys one for twenty cents (though Ruthie jokingly offers it for a dollar at first). He gives a dime to the monkeys for their banana while he puts the rest of his change into his new piggy bank. Over at Hooper's, the monkeys enjoy their banana and decide to earn more money for a second one as Mr. Handford announces the sponsors.
