SCENE 1 | Gordon and Susan are in a hurry to catch the train when Gordon stops at the newsstand to pick up a newspaper, only to find that all the newspapers have smelly fish in them. Oscar is the culprit, and reveals that he bought the newsstand so he can yell at subway riders coming from the station and make others late for their trains. Susan believes that since a Grouch now owns the newsstand, all the papers will have fish. Oscar points Gordon to the stack of newspapers that don't have fish... but have plenty of mud. | |

After confirming he's doing it to make people angry (for which she says she is very proud of him), Oscar shows her the "closed" sign he made which he then uses to fool a customer (Fran Brill in an onscreen cameo).
