Picture Segment Description

SCENE 1 Snuffy and Alice show a big book to Bob, telling him that it's a story Snuffy wrote called Are You My Brother? about a little Snuffleupagus who is missing her older sibling. Alice, the protagonist, is searching for her big brother to play with when a whirring bumblebee (Bob) approaches her. Alice thinks it might be her brother, but the bumblebee reminds her that her brother looks identical to her, having no wings, furry legs, and isn't a bumblebee. Bob tries to cheer her up by singing a tune about bumblebees, but Alice sadly walks away to keep looking for her brother. Snuffy notices that the bumblebee he drew in his book sort of looks like Bob, and that the next chapter of the story will be read after these important messages...

SCENE 2 Snuffy resumes the story with Chapter 2, where Alice keeps searching for her brother. She comes across a spider (also portrayed by Bob), but while he does have furry legs he points out that he doesn't have the same features her brother does, like having four legs, brown fur, and a snuffle. Bob fails to brighten Alice's spirits by singing "The Eensy Weensy Spider," and she keeps on looking for her brother. Outside the story, Snuffy admits that the non-Snuffleupagus characters in his illustrations definitely do look like Bob.

SCENE 3 Before going into the third chapter, Snuffy mentions it features a bird. Bob assumes the bird surely looks like himself due to his previous roles in the story, but Snuffy reveals it's Big Bird, who's looking for his own sister. He bumps into Alice, where he describes how his sister would be tall, skinny, and yellow, and they just happen to meet a giant banana (again played by Bob). The banana explains to both Big Bird and Alice that he doesn't have any siblings, leaving the two to go off searching. This time, he tries to cheer up Alice with a song about bananas, and Alice still walks away in sadness. Snuffy still brags how Bob's characters tend to look, act, and sing just like him, but Bob asks to hear the end of the story. Snuffy says it's coming up, but not until after more important messages.

However, even though Snuffy's reached the end of the story, he directs everyone to some more important messages...

SCENE 5 Snuffy brainstorms and decides he should turn the story into a play, using the same characters and actors as previously envisioned. He suggests to Bob that he'd be perfect for the roles of the bee, spider, banana, and cousin Lou, but Bob respectfully declines. However, he changes his mind when Snuffy mentions he'd be able to sing "all those wonderful songs," which inspires Bob to ask for a song for cousin Lou as well. Telly announces the sponsors as Alice playfully runs around.
COMING SOON Coming soon on Sesame Street: Telly and Zoe are "Readers of the Open Range."

Notes[]

  • Bob has previously worn all but one of his costumes in other segments and episodes. He wore the bee costume in Episode 2754, the spider outfit in Episode 2587, and the banana in a segment with Barkley. Jeff Moss, the writer of this episode, had previously penned the scripts for episodes 2754 and 2587, as well as the original songs Bob sings throughout this episode.
  • Snuffy's book would later be seen outside Finders Keepers during season 29 among other oversized books for sale.
