Picture Segment Description
SCENE 1 Telly is visiting the cottage of the Three Bears for breakfast. After the Bear Family Breakfast, they do their Bear Family Clean-up, followed by Bear Family Exercises and end with a big Bear Family Hug. Telly sees how much fun they have together and believes that if he were a bear too, he could participate. He recruits Baby Bear to teach him the ways of a bear.

SCENE 4 Telly's growling and bear walk have improved and now, he will learn how to climb a tree in the park. Baby Bear demonstrates, but due to his lack of claws, Telly has a hard time following. A free-range chicken (John Kennedy) happens by and demonstrates how she climbs a tree. Telly makes progress imitating the chicken's method - using his head as leverage, then clinging on for dear life. An egg then falls from the tree; Baby Bear hopes it's from the chicken.
Cartoon A pig sings "There Are Chickens in the Trees" until a rooster tells him that chickens don't live in trees.

SCENE 5 Telly has disappeared and returns with a bear-ish costume, ready to do some bear activities with his best friend. Baby Bear notices that Telly doesn't look much like his old self, and he would much rather sing "The Alphabet Song" instead of growling or bear exercises. Baby Bear then proposes playing checkers, but Telly remains all gung ho in being a bear and questions Baby Bear's status: "What kind of bear are you, anyway? You don't even like to do bear stuff!" Baby Bear, with his feelings hurt, leaves.

SCENE 6 Gordon comes across Baby Bear playing checkers all by himself in the park. He explains his situation to Gordon, who recommends that he and Telly talk about how he feels. Telly startles him with a bear growl, and Baby Bear admits that he misses having his regular, monster friend. Telly takes off his costume one piece at a time until Baby Bear is satisfied and happy to have his old friend again, though Telly asks if he can still be a bear every once in a while. Baby Bear permits this (on the condition he's warned first) as the two begin playing, and Gordon announces the sponsors.
In certain airings of this episode, the sponsors did not appear on-screen.
COMING SOON Coming soon on Sesame Street: A farmer brings in what he believes to be a chicken to lay an egg, but Snuffy and Big Bird know it's really a cow.

  • This episode was replaced with the street scenes and segments from Episode 3663 in the summer repeats.
  • Telly Bear would make a return in Episode 3927, this time with a more realistic bear disguise.
