SCENE 1 Big Bird is having breakfast with Luis, Maria, and Gabi over at their apartment. Granny Bird has made some special birdseed bread for Big Bird, and he's brought it so he can have some toasted. When Maria gets ready to toast the bread, though, the toaster shakes around and breaks!

SCENE 2 Big Bird really wants to have his bread toasted, but Luis thinks it may take a while to repair their toaster. Gabi recommends they call someone and borrow one. Gordon and Susan don't appear to be home, and Big Bird would prefer his birdseed toast over the other options, so they try calling others while Luis heads to the Fix-It Shop: "All these years of fixing toasters - first time I've had to fix my own."

SCENE 4 Luis is still fixing the toaster as they all head into Hooper's. Alan is willing to let Big Bird toast his bread in the store toaster, but first Alan has to prepare some for the toast-loving monsters whose bus just arrived. Big Bird wonders how many slices he needs to cook, and Alan and the monsters count the 20 pieces of bread.

SCENE 5 The monsters are very satisfied with their toast and head off. Alan puts Big Bird's bread in the toaster, which instantly breaks into pieces from being used too much. Maria takes it to the Fix-It shop to repair it.
SCENE 5 cont'd Just as they all leave, Mr. Johnson arrives asking for some toast.
Animation Two pipe-cleaner parents dig up some of their old toys, including a teddy bear, which they fight over until they accidentally rip it in half. They repair it with some chewed-up gum, and then decide to give it to the baby.

Film A boy loves learning about fish. He reads books about them, and even catches them.

SCENE 6 Maria brings Alan's toaster to the Fix-It Shop, where Luis reports he needs a replacement part for their own toaster. Maria gets out a business card for "Sal's Toaster Parts" and Luis phones Sally, who claims she can get the part to him in a few days. Big Bird worries that his bread will be stale by then, but when she learns it's for Luis' own toaster she has it shipped via air mail immediately, where the package plops down onto the Fix-it Shop workbench in seconds.

Gabi then leaves to go play with Miles while Maria and Luis stay behind to begin working on "their greatest challenge."
