Picture Segment Description
SCENE 1 Telly welcomes the viewer and witnesses Oscar causing a ruckus over at his trash can. Oscar explains his old friend, Felix the Grouch, is coming to visit and he's making his can especially messy. Telly is surprised and Oscar asserts that even Grouches have friends, then tells him to scram. As he leaves, Telly wonders what Felix will be like.

Cartoon Two round Gnorks don't notice that a pointy Gnork wants to join their game of squareball, so he asks.

SCENE 2 Telly and Big Bird tell Maria all about Oscar's plans and theorize Felix will be just like Oscar, remarking how bad having two Oscars on the street might be. Maria points out Felix could be different than Oscar, claiming Telly and Big Bird are friends despite their differences.
SCENE 2 cont'd Just then, Felix arrives from the Subway Station and asks the group where Oscar's can is. Telly is excited to meet him and leads the way. Maria and Big Bird noticed Felix cleaning the sawdust from the Fix-It Shop work table as he leaves, indicating the two Grouches are definitely different.

SCENE 3 Oscar and Felix reunite at his can, where Oscar says Felix can make himself at home. Felix immediately whips out his feather duster and starts cleaning the trash (and Oscar). He explains he's now a "neat Grouch," a Grouch who prefers things neat and tidy. Oscar can't believe it and Felix goes into the trash can to get settled (and clean up some more).

SCENE 4 Felix starts vacuuming Oscar's rug and Oscar asks what's going on with Felix; he used to be just as sloppy as the rest of the Grouches Oscar knows of. Felix explains that since childhood, he's found he prefers things clean and he's not ashamed of it; there's all types of Grouches in the world and a neat Grouch is what he is. Felix goes back to cleaning.

SCENE 5 Felix starts cleaning pieces of Oscar's trash collection, which Oscar objects to. "This is just trash," Felix says. Oscar launches into song, "I Love Trash," to explain its significance to him. Felix joins in, singing about how much cleaning means to him.

SCENE 6 Telly overhears Oscar and Felix arguing inside his can as Felix bathes Oscar's pets. Telly reports to Maria the awful time it seems the two Grouches are having. Maria tells Oscar he has every right to be angry right now; it's his home and Felix has no right to change it. Oscar calls Felix up to tell him to stop cleaning at once. If he can't make the trash can clean, Felix says he can't live there and leaves, which upsets Oscar.
Cartoon A little boy describes a time when he got angry after his toy truck was destroyed by a big kid.

Muppets Grover trains Elmo to deliver singing telegrams. He goes to Mr. Johnson's apartment to show Elmo how it's done, but gives Mr. Johnson the wrong telegram. Mr. Johnson is angry, because the telegram is noted as being from his mommy in Cincinnati, while Johnson claims his mommy is in Chicago. Elmo decides to deliver the same telegram but state that it's from his mom in Chicago, and Mr. Johnson tells Elmo to come back anytime (without Grover).
Cartoon Shifty Sid wears a mask to hide his dirty teeth. He goes to the dentist and becomes Smiling Sid.

SCENE 7 Oscar tells Maria and Telly how their confrontation went and claims he misses Felix; they were so different, it lead to fantastic arguments. Felix returns, having forgotten his suitcase, and claims to have heard everything Oscar said and says he misses his friend too. He decides to stay so they can both argue.
SCENE 7 cont'd As the two Grouches argue some more, Telly notes what a strange couple they make. "I'd say they were an...odd couple, wouldn't you?," Maria quips. Telly replies, "No."

SCENE 8 Oscar emerges from his trash can to find Felix has completely polished it (and added some flowers). They hear the closing music, which means Oscar must announce the sponsors (which Felix wipes away with his feather duster).


  • This episode is a reference to The Odd Couple, which featured two roommates -- the messy Oscar Madison (Jack Klugman) and the neat Felix Unger (Tony Randall). A spoof of the Odd Couple theme is played throughout the episode.
