SCENE 1 | Bob is about to read Elmo and some kids the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" when Baby Bear alerts them that Goldilocks is on vacation, so he shouldn't read their story. Bob decides to read "The Three Little Pigs" instead, but the Big Bad Wolf (who claims the "bad" part of his name is primarily for dramatic effect) arrives to object since the pigs are busy having a picnic. Baby Bear suggests that maybe Big Bad could be Goldilocks today since he knows how to pretend and has storybook experience. Big Bad decides to give it a try, and the two go off to prepare for the story. |

SCENE 2 | The Three Bears give Big Bad a blonde wig for his role and Baby Bear goes off to alert Bob that he can start reading now. The Three Bears act out the beginning of the story as Bob reads (though they give a rather stilted and awkward delivery of the prose). When Big Bad arrives at their cottage, he blows down the door instead of opening and walking through it. He can't help it: "Hey, I'm the Big Bad Wolf! I huff and I puff - it's what I do!" The Bears remind him that he's pretending to be Goldilocks. |

However, when Big Bad gets to trying the porridge, he huffs and puffs to cool it down, wrecking their kitchen in the process. The Bears decide to skip to the next part, and Baby Bear goes off to tell Bob again. |

SCENE 4 | Bob doesn't think the Big Bad Wolf is right for the role of Goldilocks, but Baby Bear thinks there won't be any more huffing and puffing. He returns to the cottage as Bob continues the story from the chair scene onward. Lo and behold, Big Bad doesn't sit in the chairs - he huffs and puffs them away! |

SCENE 5 | Back on Sesame Street, Baby Bear tells Elmo, Bob, and the kids to sit tight as he chases after Goldilocks, begging for her forgiveness. Goldilocks decides to quit when the wolf arrives shortly after and hands in his wig to Baby Bear, deciding to stick with his own fairy tale. Goldilocks is still mad and Baby Bear gives her a sincere apology for his actions, adding that there's nobody like her and she's his friend. She is moved by his words and agrees to join the story, and Bob is ready to read it... just as soon as the Three Bears' house gets cleaned up. |

SCENE 6 | The house is finally clean and Baby Bear is ready to do the story with the true Goldilocks. Wishing to hear the story as it should be, he asks Bob to start the story over from the part when Goldilocks enters. Elmo and the kids recap the beginning while Bob continues to read as Goldilocks acts out the story as it was meant to be heard. Baby Bear praises Goldilocks' work before he goes home to prepare for his cue near the story's ending. |

SCENE 7 | Bob continues reading the story, which is acted out flawlessly, though Baby Bear is more optimistic than usual - he's overjoyed that his bowl is empty and his chair is broken. When the Bears confront Goldilocks, she jumps up and runs away... only to find that she isn't being chased away like usual. Instead, the Bears are grateful she's there and give her a big hug. Elmo and the kids leave when the story is over, but Big Bad approaches Bob and begs to hear the story again since the Three Pigs aren't back yet (and he's too busy being in stories rather than reading them). |

Notes[]
- In an early script draft, the episode was originally planned to experiment with a different format. The street story would have been presented as one long segment in the middle of the show. The first chunk of the show was to utilize the Big Bird and Snuffy bumpers introducing the various inserts, with a newly recorded edition where the two greet the viewer at the top of the episode. Both edits were tested before a child audience before going with the format above.[1] Some episodes of the following season would employ a similar format, only placing the street story at the beginning followed by a character hosting the rest of the show until "Elmo's World."
- In a continuity error, Big Bad speaks with a slightly different, gruffer-sounding voice during scene 5.
