SCENE 1 (insert) Everybody on Sesame Street sings the "Sesame Street Theme."
Fades out before Elmo's mention of it being "Sing-Along Day".
Animation Stop-motion representation of "Happy Birthday," with balloons, gummi bears, glitter, etc.

SCENE 2 Telly announces that today is Baby Bear’s birthday and everyone is making something for him. He spots Baby Bear in the garden and wonders what he’s drawing...
Muppets Hero Guy transforms into shapes for Baby Bear.
Film The floating kids form a triangle.

SCENE 3 Telly marvels over the picture Baby Bear made him when Elmo, Tarah and the kids rush over with their presents for Baby Bear. They approach him and surprise him. They then display the drawings they made for him. Telly remarks how great they are, but finds he still needs to make Baby Bear something.
Film Kids create a mural inside a blank square using paints, markers and paper.
Muppets Ernie and Rubber Duckie introduce the letter of the day.

SCENE 4 While Baby Bear observes his gifts, Telly laments to the viewer about his lack of a gift. Rosita then arrives with her present: a clay sculpture of her and Baby Bear hugging called “The Big Hug” (with each of them having three arms by mistake). Telly begins pounding his head for ideas.
Song John Pizzarelli sings about feeling "happy and proud" on your birthday.

SCENE 5 Just when Baby Bear thinks his gifts have reached the tip of greatness, Zoe arrives with her gift. She explains that whenever she thinks of him, it makes her happy, so she incorporated that feeling into a dance. She then performs her “Baby Bear Makes Me Happy Ballet” for him, aided by two kids. Baby Bear loves the dance so much and performs the dance with her again. Telly still wishes he had an idea.
Muppets / Celebrity Angel Corella dances the Ballet Alphabet, while Telly, Zoe and Elmo name the letters. (edited)

SCENE 6 Telly brings Baby Bear outside Big Bird’s nest because Big Bird and Snuffy too have a gift prepared. But, when they enter, they reveal that they have written a poem for him, but haven’t finished it yet. They read through, until the end where they’re missing a rhyme for “end.” Telly suggests “shplend”, when Baby Bear points out the poem is fine as it is. They then realize the missing rhyme is “friend!” Telly vows to make something better than “shplend” for Baby Bear.

SCENE 7 In the arbor, Gabi and the adults have prepared an opera for the birthday bear about a kingdom with no porridge (starring Miles as Baby Bear), when his Fairy Bearmother (Linda) grants him his wish of birthday porridge. The opera finally gives Telly an idea as to what he can give to Baby Bear and dashes off.
Film Cookie Monster sings "What is Friend?" over scenes of kids playing with their friends.

SCENE 8 Telly rushes back to give Baby Bear his gift, when Baby Bear points out he already gave him his gift, having everyone on Sesame Street make him something for his birthday. Everyone then arrives singing “Happy Birthday to You” and Alan presents Baby Bear with Telly’s gift, a porridge cake. He blows out his candle and everyone heads to Hooper’s to eat.

SCENE 9 While everyone enjoys some porridge, Snuffy announces the sponsors. Baby Bear remarks what a great birthday he's had and digs into his bowl. A full credit crawl follows, even though it's a Monday.


  • Baby Bear's birthday, according to Sesame Street calendars and magazines, is May 12th.
  • Zoe wears her tutu, which she previously wore in Episode 3851, throughout most of this episode. She began wearing it on a regular basis from the next season until Season 49.
