SCENE 1 Ernie strolls down the block, greeting everyone he sees. He finally reaches the viewer and tells them that they have a playdate today. He wonders what they'll do today. Snuffy passes by and Ernie invites him to join them, but Snuffy claims he has a bath to take. Ernie leads the viewer somewhere else to find some fun.

SCENE 2 Ernie and the viewer come across Zoe and Telly Monster, who have formed the Airplane Club and pretend to be airplanes. The monsters give Rubber Duckie some instructions on how to be a plane. In the midst of their flight, Maria calls Ernie over to the Fix-It Shop.

SCENE 3 Maria needs Ernie's help in holding a sail while she glues it into a toy boat for Natasha. Ernie puts down Rubber Duckie (singing a snatch of the classic song) while he holds the sail, allowing the viewer to count to 20 while Maria glues. Ernie pretends he's also been glued to the sail as a gag, then goes to see what Elmo is laughing over nearby.

SCENE 4 Ernie finds Elmo, Alan and the kids about sing a clapping song. Ernie wants to join and shows off how good a clapper he is. Alan leads everyone in a "Simple Clapping Song." After the song, Ernie goes to look for more playdate happenings.
Film A group of girls do a playground cheer ("Ooh I'm so happy!").

SCENE 5 Ernie runs into Big Bird, who recruits Ernie and the viewer to partake in a demonstration of near and far. Big Bird gets far from Ernie, but his patented jesting force him to come near. Ernie recommends the viewer take a turn and the camera zooms near, then much farther. Once the camera gets far enough, Mr. Johnson appears in the frame, asking directions to Charlie's Restaurant.

Insert "Professor Television" (Bill Irwin) tries to demonstrate near and far, with help from Maria's voice.

Muppets Mr. Johnson has lunch at Charlie's Outdoor Al Fresco Fresh Air Cafe, where he's disappointed to find Grover waiting on him. The wind picks up, and blows his food away -- but when Grover gives him the bill, the wind dies down, and he has to pay.
