SCENE 1 | Big Bird opens with a rock joke - "Why did the pebble go on the ship? Because he wanted to rock the boat!" A duck passes through, laughing at the joke. However, the joke gets Big Bird to thinking and he picks up a rock from the ground, wondering if it's alive. He turns this into a game and asks Gordon to participate, but he's too busy brushing his teeth. Big Bird instead launches into a song, "Is It Alive?," and deduces that the rock isn't alive.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Out on the street, Big Bird continues his musical game as he poses the question regarding Slimey. Oscar is quick to point out that Slimey is alive, with a baby photo as evidence. He adds that he's also alive and proves it by telling Big Bird to scram. Big Bird sings his song again, now regarding a hat on the banister of 123 Sesame Street. The hat is not alive, but the monster underneath it is. He and his fellow hat-wearing monsters then call for "Monster Time!"

SCENE 2 | Big Bird returns to his nest to retrieve Radar and finds a small, purple bird who distressingly repeats "Paraguay!" Big Bird doesn't know what this means and assumes it's a new way to say hello, but this is quickly proven wrong. He can tell from her tone that she wants something, but with no indication as to what that is, Big Bird decides he needs some help.
SCENE 2 cont'd | In the yard, Big Bird runs into Snuffy and explains his predicament. Snuffy recalls that when he's sick, he tells his mommy so in a similar fashion to the bird's distressed manner, suggesting that she could be sick. Thus, the best course of action is to see Dr. Gina.
SCENE 2 cont'd | At her clinic, Gina wraps up with a hoarse horse when Big Bird comes in with the bird. Gina does an examination and finds it's perfectly healthy, meaning "Paraguay" is not a way to indicate she's sick. Before Gina can help any further, an elephant with a stuffed-up trunk arrives for some emergency care.
SCENE 2 cont'd | Back outside, Big Bird now theorizes that "Paraguay" could simply be a noise birds like her make and starts repeating it along with her, encouraging Alan to join in. He explains to Big Bird that it's actually the name of a country (having to describe what that means as well). Alan knows where they can learn even more on the subject...
SCENE 2, cont'd |
They head to the Mail It Shop and use the computer to look up Paraguay's official website. Maria is able to get the bird to open up by speaking Spanish - she reveals her name is Fatima and she lives in Paraguay; she's been separated from her parents and desperately wants to go back home. Big Bird offers to take her there himself, but is told Paraguay is much too far to walk. Instead, using the Yoohoo! search engine, they find the "Lost Birds of Paraguay" website. Maria leaves a message regarding Fatima and hopes they'll get a response soon. In the meantime, she suggests Big Bird bring Fatima back to his nest for the night.
SCENE 2 cont'd | It's now nighttime and Fatima shares the nest with Big Bird. Although he can't speak Spanish, he can tell Fatima feels sad and misses her parents. When he feels sad, he likes to cuddle Radar and allows Fatima to do the same as the two fall asleep.
SCENE 2 cont'd | In the morning, Maria rushes over with some good news - Fatima's parents saw their message and have arrived to reclaim her (making a speedy arrival thanks to Paraguay Airlines). Big Bird is happy they've been reunited, but is disappointed to be losing a new friend. Fortunately, the two can continue to communicate via email.
