SCENE 1 | Oscar accurately predicts that he'll tell Big Bird to scram and will trick Telly into opening his can of spring-loaded snakes. When Maria comes to give him some trash on schedule, he admits he's grown tired of doing the same Grouchy things every day. She suggests he change things up and he concludes he should find somewhere else to live, with new possibilities to be Grouchy. He wistfully sings that there's "A Grouchy Place" for him out there and he's going to find it.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Oscar situates his trash can outside the Mail It Shop, perfectly blocking the entrance and causing postman Grover to spill his delivery. The "Grouchy atmosphere" is ruined when Rosita happily receives a package and he realizes more people will do the same. He resolves to move somewhere else.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Oscar relocates to behind the counter of Hooper's Store, instantly bothering Alan, who accidentally wakes Fluffy from her nap. She tries to drink Elmo's milkshake and Elmo is more than willing to share it. Oscar fears the store is too much of a good influence and decides to move again.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Oscar moves now into the middle of the yard, where Telly and the kids play catch. The ball lands into Oscar's can, inspiring Telly to create a new game - "Grouch in the Middle!" Due to the area's status as a public area, Oscar can't get them to scram, so he comes up with the perfect place to move ("...and it's right here in this galaxy!").
SCENE 1 cont'd | Oscar has moved back to his original area, singing a reprise of his song and claiming it's perfect the way it is. He has found new ways of annoying people, thanks to his new alarm system for the steps and his sprinkler system (Fluffy), that squirts water in Maria's face.
