SCENE | Manning the counter at Hooper's Store, Miles welcomes the viewer to Sesame Street. After Elmo walks in, Mr. Pattern appears and invites everyone to play the "What Comes Next" game.
SCENE, cont'd | A pattern of apples and bananas is laid out on the counter. Elmo is invited to guess which fruit comes next before an unnamed mouse rings a bell. He guesses a banana...correctly!
SCENE, cont'd | Later, Big Bird is at the Fix-It Shop having a roller skate repaired by Luis. Elmo comes by and enthusiastically tells them about the "What Comes Next" game, wishing to play it again. At that moment Mr. Pattern promptly returns to lead the cast and viewer in a new round. The four seasons are described and dramatized with Luis as the subject, and Big Bird is asked to guess which comes next. After some thought, he and Elmo conclude that summer comes after spring. They win!
SCENE, cont'd | Later still, Telly is leading a group of kids in a Twist and Hop Dance. Elmo drops by and once again explains the game with enthusiasm, inviting Mr. Pattern to appear again. However, the gameshow host is nowhere to be found. Telly, however, suggests that they can play the game by themselves. Elmo disappears and reappears wearing gameshow garb, allowing Telly to fulfill the role of the bell.
SCENE, cont'd | The children alternately twist and hop, with the viewer invited to guess what's next. Balloons and confetti fly, and Elmo thanks everyone for playing the game.
