COLD OPEN | "What's the Word on the Street?" -- mail
SCENE | At the Fix-It Shop, Abby Cadabby and Elmo watch Maria fix a toaster. ("I love having an audience," Maria says.) An excited Rosita rushes over to show them the letter she received from her abuelita, and asks Maria to read it. In the letter, her grandma says she was looking at a picture of Rosita, and it made her happy. It makes Rosita happy, too, as she imagines a hug from her abuelita. Right then and there, Rosita decides to write a letter back, and runs off.
SCENE cont'd |
Abby realizes that she's never received a letter before. Just then, she gets a call from her mommy and has to poof away. Once she's gone, Elmo decides to write a letter to her. Elmo says goodbye to Maria, and she proceeds to fix another toaster, this time with the big screwdriver.
SCENE cont'd |
Elmo sits at a table outside Hooper's Store. Chris asks Elmo if he wants anything, and Elmo asks for paper. When Chris brings it, Elmo realizes he needs something else ... something to write with. He asks Chris for crayons, and Chris retrieves them. He makes sure Elmo has everything he needs, since Chris is running the store for Alan today.
SCENE cont'd |
Suddenly, Elmo realizes he only knows how to write his own name. He asks for Chris' help once again, this time with writing the actual letter. Since Hooper's doesn't have any customers right now, Chris obliges. Elmo starts his letter with "Dear Abby" (which has a nice ring to it). Chris is about to sign the letter once he's finished writing it, but Elmo says he'll sign it himself, since he does know how to write his own name.
SCENE cont'd |
Chris says he'll mail the letter to Abby, and it will reach her in a few days - but Elmo can't wait a few days. Luckily, Abby poofs into view just then, and has a chance to read the letter. She appreciates it, since it's the first letter she's ever received. Neither Elmo nor Abby know how to read yet, so Chris once again does the honors. Just when Chris thinks he's off the hook, they decide to start writing more letters to each other back and forth.
