COLD OPEN | "What's the Word on the Street?" -- expert
SCENE | On another sunny day, Big Bird gets some bananas from Alan, who almost welcomes the viewer to Sesame Street - when Baby Bear interrupts him so that his parrot, Ralphie, can do it instead.
SCENE cont'd |
Baby Bear is proud of how talented his parrot is, claiming that Ralphie can do anything. He can rhyme, sing, dance, and play peek-a-boo. As Baby Bear gives a speech on what a great friend Ralphie is, he doesn't notice Ralphie flying away. He looks around for Ralphie, and quickly becomes distressed. He calls out Ralphie's name, and hears a squawk from the distance, followed by "Welcome to Sesame Stweet." Alan pinpoints where it's coming from.
SCENE cont'd |
Baby Bear depends on the viewer's help to look for Ralphie, and the camera moves around Sesame Street, finally reaching Ralphie, resting in a tree.
SCENE cont'd |
Baby Bear is relieved that Ralphie isn't lost. He assumes Ralphie will come down from the tree when he calls, but Ralphie would rather just stay up there and rhyme - even when Baby Bear says "please".
SCENE cont'd |
Just then, a magazine is delivered to Baby Bear. It's the latest issue of Parroting, the #1 magazine for anyone who wants to be an expert on parrots. He finds an article which suggests he get his friends to dress up like parrots and dance "The Parrot Polka." Elmo and Zoe immediately do so, but it doesn't make Ralphie want to fly down.
SCENE cont'd |
Baby Bear is clueless what to do, since the experts' advice didn't help him get his parrot back. Zoe wonders if Ralphie is hungry, which gives Baby Bear the idea to lure him down with his "dinny-poo." Ralphie does fly down, but he flies past the food dish and out of Baby Bear's sight!
SCENE cont'd |
Baby Bear is heartbroken at the thought of losing his dear parrot friend. Alan tells him to look at it from Ralphie's point of view: Ralphie is a bird, and birds are born to fly. They both acknowledge it in song: "Sometimes a Bird's Got to Fly."
SCENE cont'd |
Once the song is finished, Baby Bear decides to accept the fact that Ralphie is gone. Just then, Ralphie comes flying back to him, and everything in Baby Bear's life is right again.
