COLD OPEN What's the Word on the Street?: Journal

SCENE Elmo, Telly and Rosita are playing tag, when they knock over some papers from Gordon's science class. Inspired, they all decide to be scientists. They don lab coats and sing a jaunty science tune. Gordon explains the steps to be a scientists; First, they need to make a question they want an answer to. They look around the street for inspiration and spot Leela giving Barkley a bath. They wonder if everyone on Sesame Street takes a bath. Elmo and Rosita form a hypothesis that everyone does, while Telly thinks everyone doesn't. Armed with a journal to take notes, they head off to find some data.
SCENE cont'd Chris sits in his bathtub singing a song when the Happy Scientists appear. Much to his embarrassment, they observe that he takes a bath and Telly draws a picture for their journal. They sing their song again and disappear. Chris makes a note to put a lock on the door.
SCENE cont'd The Happy Scientists find a cat (Matt Vogel) licking himself. To Telly's surprise, they discover this is how a cat takes a bath. They add it to their journal and go looking for more residents.

SCENE cont'd In the garden, they watch a sparrow (John Kennedy) roll in the dirt. Telly is sure that the bird isn't bathing and believes his hypothesis is correct, when the sparrow explains that he's taking a dust bath to keep his feathers and skin healthy. Telly doesn't believe it and finds an owl (Tracie Mick), who isn't taking a dust bath like the sparrow. The owl is actually taking a sun bath, to get rid of germs in her feathers. Losing hope, Telly thinks of someone who he's sure doesn't take a bath.

SCENE cont'd Telly bangs on Oscar's trash can, and is sure he won't be taking a bath. But, Oscar emerges while taking a mud bath. Telly is upset and exclaims he's a "mad scientist." Gordon finds him yelling and explains that it's okay to be wrong in science; the important thing is the data they found.
