COLD OPEN | What's the Word on the Street?: Comfort
SCENE | Chris welcomes the viewer when Elmo, Abby, Leela and some chickens arrive, having won their tee-ball game. Chris announces they should celebrate with lemonade, but then some thunder goes off in the sky. Chris leads everyone into Hooper's Store.
SCENE cont'd | Now inside, more thunder and lightning go off and the chickens all begin to freak out and jump all over the store. Elmo tells them to cover their eyes, so they won't see the lightning. But, they can still hear the thunder and begin to tackle Chris while freaking out (they can't see where they're going). Abby gets an idea and magically gives them earmuffs, so they can't hear the thunder. Lightning flashes and the chickens begin to pound on Chris in fear again (and they can't hear his pleas to stop). Abby gets rid of the earmuffs. Chris looks around at the trash store and sighs "Alan's never gonna leave me in charge again!"
SCENE cont'd | Leela decides it's time to comfort the chickens. She hugs them all and tells them there's nothing to be afraid of. The storm makes its noise again, but they notice one chicken (Henrietta) isn't frightened anymore.
SCENE cont'd | Chris has an idea of his own. Acting like a barker, he promotes the greatest show on Sesame Street: "The Thunderstorm." Two chickens still freak out from the storm, but Patty is now serene. Elmo remembers that his dad and he count between the lightning and thunder to tell how far away the storm is. After counting, Teriaki joins the group of calm chickens. Abby finally helps Attila the Hen stay calm by banging a spoon on the table, simulating a loud noise, which Tilly isn't afraid of. Chris helps by flipping the lights on and off (simulating the lightning). Soon, the store turns into a rave, complete with glowsticks for the chickens. Now that they're all not afraid, Chris asks if they're ready for lemonade.
