Picture Segment Description
4635-ColdOpen
COLD OPEN It's Halloween and Abby prepares her fairy garden for the occasion. She's grown some jack-o-lanterns, a bobbing-for-apples tree and stalks of candy corn on the cob.
4635a

4635b
SCENE 1 Elmo greets the viewer and takes them around the street to see all the Halloween festivities as everyone sings about the holiday.
4635c

4635d
SCENE 1 cont'd Elmo catches up with Abby, who is dressed as her favorite beverage - hot chocolate. Elmo puts on his costume, a homemade outfit based on his favorite comic book hero, Galactic Stan. They then meet Irwin, a boy wearing an official Galactic Stan uniform (that his mom bought). He doesn't even seem to recognize what Elmo is supposed to be. Elmo starts to feel jealous and tries to find a way he can improve his outfit.
4635e
SCENE 1 cont'd Meanwhile, Cookie Monster trick-or-treats at 123 Sesame Street and receives a Halloween cookie from Nina. He immediately shows up again in a different costume.
4635f

4635g
SCENE 1 cont'd Elmo returns with a makeshift "Galactic Stan-O-Scan," which scans the universe for aliens in need. He has also made a little alien to go along with it. He is outdone again by Irwin, who has an battery-operated, authentic replica, which shows them a Martian whose milk has run out. He zooms off to help, leaving Elmo to think of another way to one-up him.
4635h

4635i
SCENE 1 cont'd Cookie Monster tries to take a nibble out of Abby's costume, unaware it is fake. Elmo returns with something he's sure Irwin doesn't have - a Galactic Stan Space Translator, which can translate any space language. Irwin is impressed, until postman Grover arrives with a special delivery for him, containing an officially-licensed space translator. Elmo runs off in a fit.
4635j

4635k
SCENE 1 cont'd Elmo explains his situation to Alan, who tells him that his feelings can change. He continues to explain that imagination is what's important on Halloween and sings about pretending with Abby. Elmo sees his costume is fine the way it is and is no longer jealous. He uses his Galactic Stan-O-Boosters to "zoom" around, which Irwin believes is real, making him jealous (his mom couldn't find any). Elmo shows him how he can pretend to fly as well and together, they all go out trick-or-treating.

Sheriff Lick Graham (Cookie Monster) tries to enjoy a box of cookies in the woods, when he's ambushed by a pair of single-minded gingerbread men, who eat his cookies. Doughryl and Macaroon defeat them and explain the gingerbread men are "crumbies," made from a bad batch of cookies and will steal your cookies if they hear the sound of an open cookie box. To keep them away, they encourage the sheriff to take his mind of cookies by singing a song ("C is for Cookie") or by pretending the box is something else, but neither strategy works. When they reach the "Cookie Safe Zone," the Governor teaches him to control himself by dancing. It works fine and Graham invites the crumbies to dance too, which prevents them from eating the cookies. They flee when the dancing starts to work up Graham's appetite.

Notes

  • This episode was originally cited to air on HBO on September 3, 2016, but was subsequently removed from the schedule and pushed back to the end of October. Press materials and HBO schedule listings stated the show would feature the re-used street story from episode 4503, along with Lupita Nyong'o's appearance and a new "Smart Cookies" segment, but was subsequently changed to a Halloween-themed show shortly prior to broadcast. The episode has aired already in Australia on ABC Kids.
  • When aired on PBS, the episode number was changed to 4715.
