Picture Segment Description
COLD OPEN Elmo sets up today's theme of hair, which his monster friend Marty loudly declares over and over.
(First: Episode 4812)

SCENE 1 Alan, Elmo and Abby look at photos from Abby's recent haircut (her first one). Julia appears to be in need of a haircut herself, but she has found going to the hairstylist to be an upsetting experience. Elmo thinks they can help Julia overcome her fears by making sure she knows what to expect. They decide to set up a pretend hair salon outside.

SCENE 1 cont'd The pretend salon is set up in the arbor, made from various odds and ends. Julia is still hesitant about the experience, but enjoys the idea of playing. Alan takes on the role of her hair stylist, while Elmo pretends he's "El Mo," the greatest hair stylist in the world and Abby is his customer.
SCENE 1 cont'd El Mo gives Abby's hair a pretend wash in the pretend sink. Julia doesn't think she'd like that, but Alan has a spray bottle and shows how harmless it is. Julia allows a pretend spraying of her hair.

SCENE 1 cont'd Alan tells Julia about the special chairs in a salon, which she enjoys as he pushes it up and down. El Mo starts giving Abby her pretend haircut, reducing her to a single pom-pom of hair, which she loves. Julia is still uneasy about getting her haircut, but Abby suggests playing with Fluffster will take her mind off the anxiety. Alan pretends to cut Julia's hair and it's over before she knows it. When looking in the mirror, Julia agrees her hair is too long and she's finally ready to visit a real hair salon.
SCENE 1 cont'd After a photo montage of Julia's visit, she and Alan return to the street. Elmo and Abby compliment Julia's shorter hairdo and they all decide to keep playing pretend hair salon.
