COLD OPEN | Grover sets up today's theme of scientists. Both he and a talking rock find out what kind of scientists study rocks.
SCENE 1 | At night, Gordon welcomes the viewer while delivering some trash to Oscar the Grouch. He finds him at his trash can on his laptop, about to take an online course in Grouchology from P.U. (Putrid University). On the video feed, some Pesties introduce star teacher Nikola Messla and they sing their school song. Professor Messla gives Oscar's his first Grouchology question to answer - what stinky smell will make people scram? To find the answer, he must set up a Grouch experiment while obeying three rules - he must observe, record his findings and, most importantly, annoy someone in the process. Oscar is ready to start some science and goes off to experiment.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Oscar watches from a distance as Leela and Gina play checkers. He wafts the stench of an onion and old cheese their way, but they remain put. He breaks out his secret weapon - his stinky socks, which drives them away.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Oscar reports back to Messla again, who provides him with his final question, and the most important - what sound is loud enough to wake up Maria and Luis? Oscar jumps at the idea and dashes off again.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Oscar appears in their bedroom and starts rattling cans. The noise wakes up a confused Maria, but not Luis. Oscar starts a "Grouch vuvuzela solo," which once again only wakes Maria and makes her angry. She yells at him so loudly, Luis is woken up. Oscar records this on his notepad and leaves. Luis doesn't understand what's happening and Maria tells him she'll explain in the morning.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Oscar's final experiment is a success and he receives his B.O. degree in Grouchology. After they sing him a graduation song (to the tune of "Pomp and Circumstance"), they have a loud, annoying celebration.
