COLD OPEN | Count von Count sets up today's theme of counting by counting some sentient hats that stop by. (First: Episode 4718)
SCENE 1 | The Count is giving his new friend Charlie a counting tour of Sesame Street. She states she's already adept at counting, but the Count tells her there are so many things to count that are only unique to this street. The two sing a song as they count monsters, Big Bird feathers, worms, Snuffleupagus meals, and more.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Alan sets out a tray of cookies. The Count advises Charlie to count them quickly, as the moment they finish, Cookie Monster appears and consumes them all. The Count's bats flutter in and alert him it's lunchtime. A Honker then reminds him that they were supposed to count honks now, but the Count can't do both things at once. Charlie offers to count with the Honker while the Count goes to his castle.
SCENE 1 cont'd | The Count returns to Hooper's Store to count beans with Charlie. Alan informs him that while he was away, Charlie counted all the beans, and pretty much everything else in the store. The Count is slightly rattled, but leaves to do some other scheduled counting business.
SCENE 1 cont'd | The Count drops by the Bike Shop to count Nina's tires, but she says that Charlie has already done that as well. She remarks how much Charlie has taken to counting and jokes that they should call her "Countess Charlie"; the Count feigns amusement. As he sulks down the block, Alan hears some thunder. The Count notes that it's not caused by him and they see various residents (including Gladys the Cow) consulting Charlie with their counting needs. Charlie counts just like the Count, thunder and lightning and all. Alan also jokes that "there's a new Count in town," which only makes the real Count more depressed. His mood is worsened when he sees his own bats are being counted by Charlie as well.
SCENE 1 cont'd | The Count starts lugging his trunk down the block, intending to move to a new street where his role as Count has not been usurped. Alan and Nina try to explain their earlier remarks were not meant to hurt his feelings, when they hear Charlie in distress. She is surrounded by individuals who want things counted, but it's too much for her to handle. She tells the Count she would never want to take his place and everyone needs him as a counter, and a friend. The Count agrees to stay and helps Charlie count Oscar's bags of trash, then everyone else's things.
