COLD OPEN | Elmo and Abby set up today's theme of measuring by measuring a flower. Abby uses magic to make it grow taller.
SCENE 1 | Nina has set up a growth chart on the side of 123 Sesame Street, measuring Elmo using smiley faces. She then measures Rosita, who is a smiley face taller. When Big Bird wants a turn, Nina runs out of smiley faces before they can get a full measurement. They go to raid the community center for alternate objects they can measure him with. They return with various items (and a chicken), when Nina tells them that the items all need to be the same size in order to get an accurate measurement.
SCENE 1 cont'd | They return to the community center area to look for things that are all the same size. Elmo spots a bin of large blocks, which are all sized the same. As they begin to measure Big Bird with them, Nina discovers Cookie Monster attempting to snack on one (calling it a "square meal"). However, they still don't have enough blocks to reach the top of Big Bird.
SCENE 1 cont'd | The youngsters split up and look for various items, none of which will be useful in giving an accurate measurement. Outside Hooper's Store, they see Mr. Johnson unwittingly posing for a drawing by artist Grover. His finished piece is a simplistic blue smiley face, not unlike the ones Nina was using before. The trio gets the idea to make their own smiley faces that will match the ones Nina already has. Nina sets out some cloth and they get to work making more faces to use.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Now with even more smiley faces, Nina measures Big Bird and finds he's a full 12 smiley faces tall, much to his delight.
