COLD OPEN | Elmo and Abby set up today's theme of fairy tales. They picture a few in a thought bubble, when they mention "The Three Little Pigs," nothing appears. The Three Pigs come in to report that their artwork hasn't been finished yet.
SCENE 1 | Chris is reading Elmo, Abby, and Cookie Monster the story of "Hansel and Gretel." To mark the occasion, he's even made a gingerbread house like the one in the story; the frosting used to hold it together has hardened and stuck to the Hooper's Store counter. Elmo then notices something is off in their storybook - the gingerbread house has toppled over. She decides this requires the return services of the Fairy Tale Helpers (previously having helped Rapunzel in her story).
SCENE 1 cont'd | Abby magically transports them all into the storybook (giving Chris some lederhosen), where they see the gingerbread house has indeed fallen to shambles. They work together to restore it, but it falls apart within moments. Cookie Monster, eager to snack on it, finds a licorice garden hose, which they think might solve the problem.
SCENE 1 cont'd | They tie the licorice all around the house to secure it in place, but it falls inward soon after. As they think some more, Cookie finds a watering can full of maple syrup. Rather than put it on some pancakes like he wants, the others think the sticky syrup might be good as an adhesive.
SCENE 1 cont'd | They put the walls back up and cover them with syrup. It starts to run and the whole house collapses once more. Elmo is ready to give up, but Abby insists they press onward. As they think of another solution, Elmo recalls the frosting Chris used for his own gingerbread house was sticky, but solid. They decide to give it a try.
SCENE 1 cont'd | This time they use frosting to mend the house and sure enough, it stays repaired. Hansel and Gretel finally arrive and admire the house. Abby claims they'll now live happily ever after, though Chris alludes to some hardships that are going to happen before that. Abby poofs them back to Sesame Street, where Chris can now read the rest of the story.
