COLD OPEN | Elmo and Cookie Monster conduct an experiment to see how long it takes one of Cookie Monster's cookies to get mushy when dunked in milk. However, they can't get through the experiment when Cookie eats the cookie before they've barely begun.
SCENE 1 | At the community center, Nina paints a table top, when Zoe and Rosita come by to get some sidewalk chalk. Nina points out the impending rainfall, but the monsters aren't worried...until they step outside and immediately get caught in it. They retreat indoors, when Nina has to dart off to help Alan with a leak.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Zoe believes there must be a way they can still draw outside without getting wet or letting the rain wash away their drawings. There's no umbrella in sight and they can't hold a newspaper together and draw at the same time. They then see the topless table Nina was working on and believe this can help them. They cover it with newspaper and push it outside, then use Rosita's lovey Gatito as a test. The newspaper holds up for a moment, before completely giving way to the rain and soaking Gatito.
SCENE 1 cont'd | The monsters press onward and think of something else they can use. They decide to go with Gatito's blanket, which is thicker than the newspaper. They test it out and find that it does hold up, but the water starts to concentrate in the center and leak through, getting Gatito wet again.
SCENE 1 cont'd | Zoe is ready to give up, but Rosita starts to sing a song about how scientists keep trying until they come to a solution. Zoe notices some of the painting smocks hung up and thinks they might keep them dry outside. Rosita suggests using Big Bird's smock, which is big enough to cover them both. They take it outside and test it on Gatito, who remains dry under the rain. The monsters celebrate and go under their invention to start drawing.
