COLD OPEN | While Elmo and Gabrielle watch their wobbling block tower, they talk about what an engineer is. |

SCENE 1 | As Elmo welcomes the viewer, a ping pong ball drops to the ground. Elmo finds that Gabrielle, Zoe, and Rosita were testing a catapult that they learned to build from the book Everyone Can Be an Engineer. They show Elmo how their catapult works, this time launching the ball into Alan's apple basket. Louie then calls Elmo in for lunch. As Elmo leaves, Chris greets the others from his apartment window above Hooper's Store. Chris is resting his ankle, having fallen and sprained it. Alan volunteers to make him lunch and suggests that the girls can deliver it to his apartment. |

SCENE 1 (cont'd) | Alan brings Chris' lunch (a turkey and cheese sandwich with a side of dill pickle) in a paper bag. The girls are about to walk up to the apartment when Zoe proposes that they engineer a new way to deliver Chris' lunch instead; even though Chris is hungry and not crazy about the idea. They consider using the catapult but want to avoid a potentially messy result. They then notice Chris' laundry line and think the rope and pulley can be used to pull up the lunch to his window. However, the laundry rope goes sideways rather than up and down, so Chris offers to untie and drop the rope so it can be pulled vertically. Seeing nothing to attach the bag to, the girls recite their problem-solving motto and determine that one end of the rope can be tied around the bag. |

SCENE 1 (cont'd) | As Rosita pulls up the lunch bag, it slips off the rope and falls. Zoe becomes hysterical, fearing that Chris won't have anything to eat but his shoe, but Rosita helps her calm down. After more brainstorming, Gabrielle gets the idea to put the bag in one of the cardboard boxes nearby and tie the rope around that. |

SCENE 1 (cont'd) | Rosita pulls the rope again, but the box starts to tip and falls over. The girls are about to give up, but Chris encourages them to keep using their engineering skills. Zoe wonders if they can use something "less tippy." Alan returns with his apple basket (having made some pies for Mrs. Crustworthy), which they suspect is exactly what they're looking for. They put the bag in the basket, tie its handle to the rope, pull it once more, and successfully deliver Chris his lunch (plus four apples Alan had leftover). |
