SCENE 1 Big Bird, Abby, and Elmo are at the park to see Big Bird's auntie Nani from Hawaii. Elmo and Abby ask what Hawaii is, and Big Bird explains it as one of the United States, and further explains that Sesame Street is in New York, also a United State. They talk about how Hawaii is a far away place, and that's why it's so special when auntie Nani comes and visits. Nani flies in and gives Big Bird a great big hug, calling him "Manu Nui" ("great bird" in Hawaiian), a special family name for Big Bird since he was a baby, and Nani shows everyone a baby picture of herself and Big Bird. Nina then arrives, and she and Nani exchange alohas, which Nani explains to Elmo and Abby that it means "hello" and "goodbye," and is always said with a meaning of love (in fact, it means "love," too). He and Big Bird then say aloha to Nani.

SCENE 1 cont'd Nani has a present for Big Bird, which she explains to be a special kind of necklace made of flowers called a lei. It is an important part of Hawaiian culture that you give as gifts to family and friends. Big Bird then asks Nani if he can make leis for all of his friends, and she explains that they're gonna need some strong and sturdy flowers to make more leis. Abby then magics up some flowers and art supplies. Nani explains to the group that in order to make leis, you first need to pick out good flowers to use and then use twine to string them together. Nani starts by making one for Elmo, and they exchange a hug. Elmo makes one for Abby, Abby makes one for Nina, and Big Bird makes one for his auntie Nani.
