SCENE 1 cont'd | After the group leads a song, they get their costumes ready. Elmo and Baby Bear get ready for their roles as Papa Bear and Baby Bear, while Charlie and Mia get ready for their roles as Mama Bear and Goldilocks respectively. James says something isn't right, that Charlie should play Goldilocks, as Mia's hair and skin aren't quite the color of the character she's playing. Mia tells James that her hair and skin doesn't matter, that she can play Goldilocks if she wants to, but James just can't get over it, even after Charlie explains that she herself doesn't want to play Goldilocks. Mia gets upset at James' unfairness, and resigns from her role, followed by the other three. |

SCENE 1 cont'd | Nina arrives, and she listens to Mia and Charlie's frustrations. James once again doubles down, saying that he wants the story to be just right, like in the book. He and Nina sit down for a chat, and Nina tells James that while Mia may not look like Goldilocks, the best part about acting out a story is you can be anyone you want to be. James relates, saying he could be an astronaut, firefighter, or basketball player, and Nina asks him how he'd feel if someone said he couldn't be any of those things because of the color of his skin. He says that'd be wrong, and realizes his mistakes. He apologizes to Mia, and says she'd make a great Goldilocks. |
