Picture Segment Description
COLD OPEN Ernie and Felix demonstrate today's theme of opposites through "upside down" and "right side up." As a right-side-up Ernie leaves, Felix realizes he is stuck upside down.

SCENE 1 Ernie arrives to Hooper's Store walking backward, and Bert, Elmo, and Alan wonder why. Ernie explains it's Opposite Day, so he's walking forward and backward. Ernie's moving around makes Bert dizzy, so Bert requests Ernie stand still. Ernie does, but he also does the opposite: moving around. This inspires Alan to do his own opposites, and he demonstrates "quiet" versus "LOUD!," accompanied by Ernie's demonstration of "whisper" versus "SHOUT!" Elmo does his own demonstration of "very-very-very-very-fast" versus "very... very... slowly." Bert is completely disinterested, refusing to show off any opposites. Elmo leaves to tell everyone about Opposite Day, and Ernie has Bert follow him to see how fun opposites can be...

SCENE 1 cont'd Ernie shows Bert two children showing "up" and "down," Oscar showing Slimey "open" and "closed," and Grover showing (very) near and far (three times). Due to all the running, Grover does the opposite of stay awake: fall asleep.
SCENE 1 cont'd Bert is still unconvinced, so Ernie leads a song about how fun opposites can be. During this song, Abby and Big Bird demonstrate "tall" versus "short," Grover demonstrates "first" versus "last," and Elmo demonstrates "fast" versus "slow."
SCENE 1 cont'd Bert becomes more open-minded and points out ways in which he and Ernie are opposite, such as their shirts' stripe patterns and how much noise they like to make. Bert gets carried away and says so many opposites that Ernie drifts asleep. Ernie tells Bert Opposite Day ended, but Bert says every day is opposite day with the two of them. Ernie points out that even though they're opposite in many ways, they're still friends.

Nature Explorers Title Card

Cartoon Sesame Street Nature Explorers
Elmo, Tango, and Gabrielle's nature walk is halted by the rain, so they head inside the warm and dry greenhouse, the opposite of the cold and wet outside. The three realize that there's plenty of nature indoors, so they continue their nature walk in the greenhouse. They find some beautiful flowers, which Grandma Nell points out are sunflowers, nasturtiums, and daisies. They also find food indoors, as Nell's growing herbs, peppers, and tomatoes in the greenhouse. Inside one of the pots is a worm that Nell brought in from outside ("Earthworms make the soil happy"). Tango then discovers a spider, who simply found its way inside.
SCENE 2 Bert and Ernie continue to show opposites through "high" and "low." The two and Elmo say goodbye, as well as the opposite of goodbye: hello.
