(First: Episode 5120)

SCENE 1 Alan cooked up some chicken and rice soup for Elmo and Abby, and because soup's a lot of people's favorite, he asked Grover for more rice. Grover interpreted this liberally, and he arrives with a mountain of rice. Not believing enough soup will be requested, Alan struggles to figure out what to do with all the rice. Abby suggests making other kinds of foods with rice. Mia shares that her Cuban-American dad's family makes a plethora of rice-based dishes, and Ji-Young shares that her Korean-American family does too. This gives Elmo and Abby an idea...

SCENE 1 cont'd ...a Sesame Street cook-off! Abby magics up a set and she and Elmo host "Use That Rice!", everyone's favorite cooking game. On one side is Mia. She's seven and can't use the stove, so her parents are brought in to help her, much to their confusion. Elmo asks how they're gonna "use that rice," and Mia has the idea to make arroz imperial, a Cuban rice recipe. On the other side are Ji-Young and Alan. Ji-Young wants to make kimbap (a Korean rice dish), and though Alan loves kimbap, he's never made it before.

SCENE 1 cont'd The clock (Pam Arciero) is now ticking, and the teams rush to get ingredients. As they're cooking, the hosts ask the team about their dishes. Mia is mixing tomato sauce and spices to make yellow rice, and through onion-created tears, Frank shares that onions and bell peppers will go in the rice as well. Once the rice is done, they'll coat the pan in mayonnaise and layer the rice with chicken and cheese. Ji-Young and Alan are mixing sesame oil and salt into their rice. They then put a sheet of dry seaweed on a bamboo mat. They add the rice and roll it with carrots, spinach, cucumber, pickled radish, and egg.
SCENE 1 cont'd Mia's team finishes up the pan and places it into the oven. Meanwhile, Alan adds sesame oil to the kimbap and slices it before beginning to roll another. The timer dings, and both teams present their dishes. Abby finds that all of the rice was used, and she and Elmo try the food. The hosts love both dishes, and both teams compliment each other's creations. Alan has the idea of a "rice day" celebrating all kinds of families from all over the world. Grover overhears and offers to make more rice then, having interpreted everyone's "no" as ironic, gets ready to do so.
