Ernie sits alone giggling at his wiggling fingers when Bert enters the room and immediately admonishes the messy state of the place. There's paper and coloring books all over the floor with clothes hanging out of the laundry basket and towels draped over the furniture. He tells Bert he'll clean up later because right now he's studying his fingers and thinking about all the different things they can do.
Betting he can do ten different things with his fingers, he promises to give Bert the banana he was saving for his dessert. That's one thing; he just picked up the banana. When he points to the 1 telestrated on the screen, he explains that pointing is the second thing. He snaps his finger as the third thing he can do, then draws a picture of Bert with a crayon, scratches his head, walks his fingers like little legs, tickles Bert ("Oh, I hate that one," says Bert), plugs his ears so he can't hear, and holds his nose to make a funny voice as the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth things he can do with his fingers.
Struggling to come up with a tenth thing, he admits that he can't think of anything else to do with his fingers. Bert begins laughing, claims victory, and rushes off with the banana as his prize. Watching Bert leave, Ernie waves goodbye... then realizes that waving is the tenth thing. He chases him off screen, returning only with a banana peel as an eleventh thing he can do with his fingers.
Notes[]
- This is one of only two sketches that take place in Ernie's room, the other being Ernie Prepares to Do the Laundry.
