From off camera, Bert is being pelted by various objects. He makes his way over to Ernie who is nonchalantly tossing his toys around the room. Bert accuses him of being the sloppiest person he ever saw and threatens to move in with Oscar the Grouch ("His garbage can is neater than this place!") if he doesn't clean up the apartment. Ernie promises to clean up so well that when he's done, you'll be able to eat off the floor.
In part 2, Bert returns impressed with how tidy the place looks. Ernie says the only thing left is his toybox, so Bert tells him to get to it. In a close-up shot, Ernie begins going through the items and tossing them over his shoulder: his Rubber Duckie, a tinfoil ball, an X to mark the spot, his plush dog Spot, his worm collection in a jar, his paperclip collection, some old tape, a football helmet, and a peanut butter sandwich among them. The camera cuts to Bert, again being pelted with objects, who silently shrinks in disbelief.
Notes[]
- The script calls for Bert to be the one who has been tossing things around the apartment before tasking Ernie with cleaning up.
