Ernie has promised to write a letter to his cousin Mort.
Bert helps him with the spelling, but Ernie only gets as far as writing a large letter M on the envelope. Bert says he can't continue spelling the name, because Ernie's written M has taken up the whole space. Ernie says it fulfills his promise to Mort: he's written him a letter; the letter M.
