"Everybody Sleeps" is a Sesame Street song composed and sung by Joe Raposo over a film of people and animals sleeping in various ways.
The film was re-edited in the late 1980s. The original version featured a shot of a man falling asleep in a chair, only to fall out of it, which was later replaced with a shot of astronauts sleeping. (First: Episode 2508)
In season 24, the segment was re-filmed entirely. The song track was also remixed, using an alternate vocal take by Raposo with some slight lyric changes. (First: Episode 3026)
Alan performed the song in Episode 3807. The song was also remade as "Every Kitty Sleeps" for a Suzie Kabloozie cartoon. (First: Episode 3860)
A similar song called "Everybody Eats" uses the same tune, but has lyrics that pertain to food and eating.
