"Everything's Coming Up Roses," the first act finale from Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim's musical Gypsy, is about a domineering stage mother's deranged decision to push her older daughter into the spotlight after she discovers that her youngest daughter has run out on the family act.
It was originally performed on Broadway by The Muppet Show guest star Ethel Merman. Another Muppet Show guest star, Bernadette Peters, performed it in the 2003 Broadway revival.
The Muppet Show[]
- performed by Pearl Bailey on episode 305 as the last song in the Camelot medley. It also served as the underscore during the jousting match immediately preceding the song.
- performed by Liza Minnelli as the closing number of episode 414.
Walt Disney World[]
- performed in the attraction Muppets on Location: Days of Swine and Roses at Disney-MGM Studios.
Sesame Street[]
- spoofed by Harvey Fierstein as "Everything's Coming Up Noses" on the Season 35 episode 4063. Harvey Fierstein takes noses from a box and places them on the faces of Anything Muppets and Anything Monsters. Once he runs out of noses, a Pumpkin AM Muppet lends him a pair of Groucho glasses.
