FAO Schwarz was founded in 1862 and holds the distinction of being the oldest toy company in the United States. Their former New York City flagship store was a popular tourist attraction, and remained in operation until July 2015.

1984 Muppet boutique

In 1984, Jim Henson and his team created a Muppet boutique, cited as the first "shop-within-a-shop," which opened in FAO Schwarz's flagship location. The boutique highlighted The Muppets Take Manhattan, and prominently featured the Muppet Babies (who would get their own boutique at Macy's later that year).[1] Actress Lori Loughlin modeled in photos to promote the opening.

1997 catalogue

The Fall 1997 catalogue featured Elmo and Cookie Monster on the cover following the Tickle Me Elmo craze of the previous season.

2008 Whatnot Workshop

The Muppet Whatnot Workshop opened in 2008.

2013 Fraggle Rock boutique

A Fraggle Rock boutique opened in April 2013 to commemorate the show's 30th anniversary. In addition to featuring merchandise, concept artwork and props from the original show are on display.
