Fairies are fictional wish-granting beings, usually winged, who populate fairy tales. Most often serving as godmother (or godfather or godperson) to the protagonist, fairies have appeared frequently in Muppet/Henson productions. They tend to be less competent than their literary counterparts, however.
Famous fairies include the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella, the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio, Tinkerbell from Peter Pan, and the Tooth Fairy.
Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street is a "fairy-in-training." She attends a flying fairy school, helped establish a fairy garden on the street, and her fairy family and culture has been showcased within the show. In addition to fairies, pixies and sprites have been referenced in the Sesame Street world, but only one pixie has been seen. In an interview, Abby Cadabby stated that fairies get teeth at age 120. At the time of the interview, she was 3, so it'll be a while until she's eating solid foods. (YouTube)
