"Someone's Watching"

Family-someoneswatching2

Later in the same episode

Family is a TV drama which ran on ABC from 1976 to 1980, initially as a six episode limited series. As the title suggests, it centered on the suburban Lawrence family, although it dealt with more realistic issues than the typical sitcom counterparts. These started in the first episode when eldest daughter Nancy finds out her husband is having an affair (leading to divorce, becoming a single mother, and moving back in with the family).

Muppet Mentions[]

  • In the second season episode "Someone's Watching," Nancy finds she's being stalked by a secret admirer. He leaves a Questor Ernie puppet in her infant son Timmy's stroller when they're at a park. In a later scene, her sister Buddy sees Ernie and puppeteers him. However, the fact that the unknown person somehow knew that Nancy and her son both loved Ernie disturbs her when she talks about it with her brother Willie (who only recognizes the puppet as "that guy on Sesame Street.")
  • After father Doug is hit by a car and hospitalized in the second season episode "Taking Chances" part 1, Buddy visits him. Doug has lost his vision and says he's been watching soap operas for company. Buddy says it's better to be sick in the morning so you can watch Sesame Street. "You never outgrow Sesame Street." Doug replies that she always liked Grover, the little green guy. Buddy corrects him that he's blue. When her dad insists he's green, Buddy says he's blue and tells him to watch it tomorrow, before suddenly remembering that Doug is blind at the moment, and soberly agrees he's green.
